Will the IRS trigger an audit if I try to get my husbands money back?

I am asking this ...my husband is owed a refund on his tax return and hasn't received it. I want to know if I should inquire about it or am I risking an audit. I have power of attorney. I could use the money.

Merely asking for the status of a refund will not trigger an audit.

I do not see how the taxpayer asking about a refund would trigger an audit. If there is a reason for an audit, it will process through with or without any inquiries. However, unless you are one of the taxpayers on the return, you cannot request anything. If your Power Of Attorney is one you get, such as from the stationery store or on-line, that is not a Power Of Attorney the IRS will recognize.
